Another Crab’s Treasure is Coming to Game Pass Day One

The strange indie soulslike where you play as a crustacian is coming to Game Pass on April 25th. The game will also launch for every other major console (PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch) on the same day but, if you’re a subscriber to Xbox’s monthly subscription service, you’ll be able to play this one for free straight away and, if you’ve been following news or been watching trailers for this game, its very worth trying it as soon as you can.

Most Soulslikes tick off very similar check boxes: a dreary environment, disgusting bosses and a theme of hopelessness that seeps through in the characters you meet and the areas you traverse. While this is perfect for this type of game (especially when the sad Anor Londo music kicks if after you’ve lost to Ornstein and Smough for the 50th consecutive time), it can get a little samey- especially when so many Souls-inspired games follow the same formula. Thankfully, however, Another Crab’s Treasure completely subverts that with its colourful environments and almost cartoony characters.

That’s not to say that this release is completely removed from other Soulslikes, however. This game still has the interweaving level design, plethora of build styles in the form of different shells to equip and, of course, head poundingly difficult boss fights. If you’re biding your time waiting for Elden Ring’s DLC in June, this is the perfect pre-requisite to get you back in the genre or to pull you in for the first time. Be warned though- the cheery exterior of this release will likely not make you want to hurl your controller any less than any of its contemporaries. You can pick up Another Crab’s Treasure on April 25th from all major consoles (as well as on Game Pass day one).
