Latest Game from Limbo Devs Gets Fantastic Reviews

The first game from studio ‘Geometric Interactive’ released earlier this week, and its received some fantastic reviews from critics and the public alike. With a top critic score of 88 and 95% of critics recommending the game, this falls comfortably into Opencritic’s ‘Mighty’ rating, which is reserved for only the most impressive releases in their respective genres. Its safe to say that Cocoon is a hit for all gamers that have experienced it.

The game, which has been published by Annapurna Interactive, was created by a bunch of ex-Playdead developers who were previously responsible for games like Limbo and Inside. As such, it retains a lot of the atmospheric puzzle-focused DNA that made those games so popular. However, by switching from 2D to an isometric perspective, puzzles are made much more complex- which is an aspect only built upon when you consider the main mechanic of the game: switching from other worlds inside orbs.

Within Cocoon, you travel with several different orbs linked to other worlds, which you can hop into and out of to solve challenges. This creates some very detailed puzzles with multiple layers that aren’t seen in more traditional entries into the genre. IGN were very impressed with this mechanic- giving the game a 9/10:

“Cocoon is one to remember. This puzzle adventure builds on ideas from Limbo and Inside and creates a mind-bending, world-warping adventure unlike either of them.”

Other critics were also impressed by Cocoon’s unique visual style- which stands out with vibrant colors and alien landscapes. Game Informer gave the game an 88/100 because of this:

“I don’t know that I will ever fully understand what transpired during my molecular journey on Cocoon’s alien world, but its imagery and puzzles will stay with me for some time.”

With Cocoon releasing day one on Game Pass (meaning you can play it right now if you have a subscription), there’s every reason to give this intriguing puzzle game a try- even if you’re usually not one to indulge in the genre.
