The Last of Us Part 1 Sales Increase by 238% over Past Week

The first episode of HBO’s The Last of Us TV show launched last week to rave reviews- sitting at a 9.2 on IMDB with nearly 35,000 reviews. It’s safe to say, then, that most viewers are loving the recreation of Joel and Ellie’s journey across a post-apocalyptic America. So much so, in fact, that the sales of The Last of Us Part 1 were bumped by 238% compared to last week. It’s safe to say that Pedro Pascal's (Joel) and Bella Ramsey’s (Ellie) performances have convinced a lot of people to finally try Naughty Dog’s magnum opus.

Launching in September of last year, The Last of Us Part 1 was a complete ‘remake’ of the original 2013 game (which already had a remaster the year after its release on the PS4). Although it had its share of controversies, the game was still praised for being one of the greatest games ever made- and being the definitive way to experience the masterful storytelling from an aging decade-old game. This also introduced some fantastic accessibility features that Sony has come to be known for. There’s The Last of Us Part II and God of War: Ragnarök- to name just two blockbuster titles- that offered a vast amount of freedom to the player to personalize their experience. From hundreds of difficulty combination options to the ability to play with one hand, this feature shouldn’t be underestimated.

The accessibility of Part 1 will provide players of every background the best possible experience jumping into The Last of Us. In fact, the TV show was likely the reason the remake was created in the first place: to bring as many people into the Last of Us’ universe as possible. With the potential of a part 3 and the confirmation that Naughty Dog’s solely multiplayer rendition of the franchise is going to be its biggest title yet, there’s no better time to get involved with the post-apocalyptic series. With this sentiment, it makes sense as to why there was such an increase in sales for the remake- which is something I expect to see go up even more as the show progresses in the coming weeks.
