Sea of Stars Free DLC Announced for 2025

‘Throes of the Watchmaker’ is the name of the first piece of DLC for Sabotage Studio’s retro RPG ‘Sea of Stars’ and is set to release in Spring of next year. The DLC (which will be free for all who own he base game) includes new areas, enemies and even a new playable character all set inside a magical clock. The announcement trailer also mentions ‘new rules’ that could shake up the formula of the main game.

These ‘new rules’ likely refer to the new abilities given to Zale and Valere- with the ‘acrobat’ and ‘jugglar’ roles being assigned to them. This will surely include new combo moves and combat options that vary wildly from the base game. From the trailer, its likely that our two mainstays and the new character ‘Artificer’ are going to be the main (and maybe only) playable characters in this mini-expansion. A villainous troupe consisting of a magical bouncer elephant, a deadly puppeteer and even suspicious clones of main characters Zale and Valere. All set in a carnival themed world within a pocket watch, what’s not to love. You also fight a train in what you may recognise as a reference to Final Fantasy VI.

This DLC is set to announce sometime in Spring 2025 for all major consoles including PC and the Nintendo Switch. With how great the original release of Sea of Stars was and how much of a cult indie following it has garnered, its great to see Sabotage Studio add a substantial chunk of content to their retro RPG. Remember- this content update is completely free for all players so, if you haven’t already, make sure to pick up Sea of Stars to experience what is one of the greatest classic-feeling RPGs of the last decade.
