Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Demo Available to Play Now

During last week’s special State of Play dedicated to the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, a lot about the game was revealed. From the fully explorable world, details on the new playable characters and hints about how the story would differ from the original, the State of Play was a fantastic showcase on the upcoming middle chunk of the FFVII Remake project. One of the more substantial reveals, however, was one that leaked prior to the showcase: a playable demo would drop the same day.

Although people knew about the demo coming, they didn’t know what it would consist of. At the end of the half hour of trailers and reveals, however, we were given more information on what to expect. Unlike what many were expecting, the demo doesn’t merely cover the opening hours of the story, but instead allows players to take the helm as Cloud and Sephiroth in the iconic Nibelheim flashback, which is likely to take place a few hours into the adventure.  It will also them to experience a limited section of the open world in Junon from 21/02/2024, giving a glimpse into the new features and additions Square Enix have made to this release compared to 2020’s Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Whilst progress has been confirmed to not carry over into the full game (unlike the Final Fantasy XVI Demo from last year), fans may still want to play the demo for access to some exclusive perks. One of which includes the ability to skip the Nibelheim flashback section when it appears in the base game as anyone who has played the demo has already completed that section. On top of this, additional potions and healing items, as well as a charm that allows additional resource items to be gathered, will be given to players who have demo save data when they play the game on day one.

The demo itself has already amassed a rating of 4.87/5 on the PlayStation store- with 95% of players awarding it 5 stars. If that’s any indication of the quality of this release, then Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be a worthy retelling of the classic PS1 original. Whether or not you decide to play the demo, hopefully, the game lives up to the hype when it releases on February 29th later this month.
