Nominees for The Game Awards to be Announced November 14th

The Game Awards is quite a recent event in gaming- with the first ceremony being aired in 2014. This makes 2022’s awards the eighth show hosted by Geoff Keighley. The event is meant to recognise the best games from each genre that has released in a given year, as well as giving some well-earned attention and praise to the AAA and indie developers alike that have managed to produce unique and innovative titles that are really making ground in the industry. On Twitter, the official Game Awards Twitter account announced that the full nominee list would be unveiled on 14th November:

The awards are set to be held on December 8 2022 in the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles and will likely be a showcase for several trailers and surprises as has been the case for the last few years. It is important to keep expectations in check, however, as the show is primarily about celebrating already released games- and not unveiling big blockbusters. Those reveals are reserved for the Nintendo Directs and E3’s of the year. Popular contenders for the Game of the Year category include Elden Ring, Horizon: Forbidden West, and the recently released God of War: Ragnarök (especially given that 2018’s God of War received the title). However, indie gems like Neon White and Tinykin are also sure to receive praise given the surprisingly significant impact they’ve had on the industry.

It has not been announced yet what the categories are but we can assume that long-standing awards such as Game of the Year, Best Independent Game, Best Narrative, Best Score and Music and even Games for Impact. Of course, there are many more- including genre-specific entries like best fighting game and more niche (but still important) categories such as Innovation in Accessibility. With the potential for even more coverage, this year’s Game Awards are shaping up to be the biggest yet. The nominations will be revealed on Monday, 14th November at 5pm GMT and the show itself will take place at 1am GMT (that’s a late night for anyone from the UK looking to tune in).
