Metroid Prime Remastered receives glowing reviews

After being shadow dropped at last week’s Nintendo Direct, Metroid Prime Remastered has been getting some incredible reviews from critics and fans alike. A complete retexture of the original Metroid Prime from the GameCube, the game follows the first 3D adventure of Samus Aran on a treacherous planet. Much like its 2D iterations, Metroid Prime is famous for bringing the ‘metroidvania’ genre into the third dimension- tasking players with traveling around the game world to find power-ups that aid in exploration.

Given how the original game was hailed as being a classic, its no surprise that the Metroid Prime remaster has received one of the highest critic scores in the Switch’s history. With upscaled graphics and updated quality of life features, the remaster is already a smash hit. Building upon the original, the Switch port lets players take one of the best (and original) metroidvania games on the go. Reviews point to improved performance, upscaled textures and a triumphant success in bringing the eerie original into the modern day whilst still keeping what made the GameCube game so great. user Po7a7os had the following to say:

Never played any Metroid Prime before, and my first Metroid was Dread that I really enjoyed. Here I got the same vibes, the ambiant sounds and the musics are very good, the game is very good looking without suffering any fps drops, making it one of the best games the switch can give us

It’s not only clear that the game suits original fans, but newcomers too. Critics similarly praised the game- with Nintendo Life offering a prestigious 10/10 rating for the remake:

With Metroid Prime Remastered, the seemingly impossible has been achieved: a masterpiece has been made even better.

While there have been some small complaints about the iffy motion controls and the occasional bug (although infrequent and minor), its safe to say that the updates to the original more than merit the existence of this remaster. So much so, in fact, that a lot of the fanbase has called this a remake rather than simply a remaster. One look at any comparison videos proves that theory correct. Whether you’re a fan of the Metroid series or a complete newcomer, it appears that Metroid Prime Remastered is the perfect point to jump into (or re-enter) the franchise. Now all that’s left is to wait for any news at all about Metroid Prime 4- but I wouldn’t hold out too much hope for that coming any time soon.
