Hades II Launches into Early Access on Steam

Although fans of developer Supergiant’s massive ‘Hades’ series were expecting its long awaited sequel to be released for early access at some point in May, they likely didn’t expect for it to be dropped out of nowhere on a Monday morning. The game was first announced way back in 2022, with an early access release being delayed into 2024. Just a couple of weeks after the exclusive technical test, however, the game is fully available for all Steam players in its early access form.

But, considering that the game is only in early access and lacks a lot of features that will likely be coming at launch, fans and critics are unanimous in their love for the game. There’s no Opencritic or Metacritic scores out yet as these are only updated once the full game releases, but from critical impressions, its clear that this follows on from the greatness of the original. IGN had the following to say:

“Hades 2 feels impossibly huge and unbelievably polished by any standard, much less an early access game […]even with all that it’s currently missing, what’s here right out of the gate is astounding, and the thought of more coming on the way is a tantalizing treat.”

Although critic score compilation sites don’t provide their average scoring until a game launches into 1.0, its clear that Hades II is both an improvement on the original as well as an interesting new take on the lore of the series. With an interesting new main character, new Gods to take favour from and, as a result, almost limitless new build potential, Hades II is still worth picking up despite lacking a lot of features such as a story ending and new area that will be added in the build up to the 1.0 release within the next few months and year.

Despite lacking features currently, Hades II is a hit with fans- quickly becoming one of the best rated early access titles in history. Its currently sitting at an overwhelmingly positive 97% rating putting it almost level with the 1.0 first game, which is at 98%. Even with a lot of work to be done, if you were a fan of Hades, its a no brainer to pick this one up. The only thing holding you back may be whether you want to simply wait until the full game and all of its content releases- especially considering that save data will not carry through to the full release.
