Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters Finally Arrive on Other Consoles

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series is finally making its way to other consoles after a long overdue announcement yesterday. Since now, the games have been chained to Steam but the recent post by the Final Fantasy Twitter Account unveiled that each of the classics will be migrating over to PlayStation 4 and Switch. Unfortunately, Xbox users will be missing out for now- but there’s still the chance Microsoft consoles could receive the collection in the future.

While its great news that the series is coming over to Switch and PS4, the announcement of a physical collectors edition is what’s got a lot of fans excited for the release. With a complete box with artwork from the first six Final Fantasy games, an original ‘Pixel Artbook’, figurines of the most recognisable characters and (the most noteworthy) a vinyl containing a two disc original vinyl set. Given the storied history of the franchise, this collectors edition is a fantastic way to celebrate the games that started it all. The only detractor is that this version of the remaster will set you back a very hefty £245, so this one is definitely for the mega-fans alone.

If you’re not looking to buy the complete collection offered, Square Enix has also revealed a basic physical edition coming just with the disc for £65.00. For a complete recreation of six of the best RPGs ever created, that’s not too bad of a deal. You can also pick up each game individually digitally on the eShop and Playstation storefronts. So, if you’re an avid fan of the original Final Fantasy III and only that entry, you’re in luck (although the individual prices have not yet been set). No release date has been set yet but Square Enix has confirmed a Q1 release window- which likely puts this release between the March-April months.

Overall, this reveal is a fantastic one for fans of the series- but also for those looking to delve into the root of the franchise with modern mechanics such as sped up battles and improved graphics. Either way, having these excellent remasters become more readily available is definitely a good thing- well, unless you’re an Xbox gamer.
