Elden Ring Reaches 23 Million Copies Sold Ahead of DLC

Soon after last week’s trailer for the highly anticipated Elden Ring DLC ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ was released, it was announced that the game had sold a tremendous 23 million copies two years since release. That places it just shy of the top 50 best selling videogames of all time- which is a very impressive feat considering the niche nature of most FromSoftware titles.

That number is set to climb even higher, though. With the DLC ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ officially dropping on June 21st, players will be able to experience (or re-experience) the lands between in a return to one of the greatest games that the genre has ever seen. The DLC will be coming to all platforms that the full game is playable on and will cost a hefty £35. However, when you consider the size of the base game, that asking point is more than understandable.

With new bosses, areas and, of course, lore secrets coming to the game soon, the hype surrounding 2022’s Game of the year hasn’t died down just yet. With Shadow of the Erdtree being confirmed as the only expansion for the game, this release will see FromSoftware drop the sunet on their most ambitious game ever- and hopefully this additional content makes the game even more of a masterpiece (if that was even possible).

With Elden Ring’s sales figure beating out 2023’s best selling game ‘Hogwarts Legacy’, this shows just how successful a game can be despite all of the detractors that could be holding it back such as inaccessibility and difficulty. If you make a phenomenal game, it will likely sell very well despite the barriers of entry (such as with last year’s fantastic ‘Baldur’s Gate III). With the DLC just a few months away, excitement for the next chapter in Elden Ring is only climbing higher and higher.
