Crash Bandicoot 4 Game Designer Implies ‘Crash 5’ was Cancelled by Activision

In a recent Twitter thread, Nicholas Kole, a game designer on ‘Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time’ mentioned that there was a ‘Crash 5 that never was’. This implies that there was meant to be a sequel to the wildly successful fourth entry in the Crash Bandicoot series before being shelved and eventually cancelled. Considering that Toys for Bob (who also worked on the fantastic Spyro Remaster trilogy) have now become fully independent from Activision, its unlikely that this fifth game is going to see the light of day anytime soon.

This news came after Nicholas Kole also announced that one of his other projects codenamed ‘Project Dragon’ was cancelled after three years of work. Fans assumed that this was a new Spyro game which was rebutted but this led to the developer confirming that Crash 5 was once in development before being canned. We don’t know any further information about this yet but, considering how well received the fourth game in the series was received, the ideas and innovations that the fifth could have brought are now unfortunately lost.

Now that Toys for Bob (who were presumably the studio in mind to work on the new Crash game) has become fully independent from Activision, its unlikely that any IPs like Spyro will be worked on by them anytime soon. Considering that Activision themselves seem to be showing little interest in continuing the series in any other was than the poorly received multiplayer Crash Team Rumble, its safe to say that a new game in the series won’t be coming for a long while. With Toys for Bob now independent, however, hopefully this will allow new IPs to be born that live up to the potential of this cancelled Crash game.
