Bloodborne Inspired ‘Nightmare Kart’ is Available Now- For Free!

What started off as an April Fool’s joke a couple of years ago, solo developer Bunlith has finally released their latest project on Steam: Nightmare Kart! What’s better, its completely free for everyone to download! The game was originally titled ‘Bloodborne Kart’ and, as a result, had a whole host of locations, characters and karts inspired by the hit FromSoftware RPG. Unfortunately, this name was not to last since Bunlith received a notice from Sony’s lawyers earlier this year informing them that all references to Bloodborne had to be removed.

Thankfully, however, this meant that, if any links to Bloodborne were removed, the game could still be released. This delayed the game coming to Steam for a while but, as of the 1st of June, you can now download this legally distinct gothic style kart racer that has some eerily similar designs to Bloodborne. 12 unique vehicles, a bunch of cool tracks and even boss fights included in a story mode make Nightmare Kart far more fleshed out than many expected it to be originally. The game doesn’t currently appear on Steam (in the UK at least) but it seems that there are just a few more steps needed for Steam verification to ensure that there aren’t any copyright infringements before its available on the platform.

Until it does get fully verified, however, you can download the game on itch.io on your browser, where its currently sitting at a rating of 4.9 stars. Its clear that this passion project is more than just the joke it started off as. Considering developer Bunlith’s fantastic previous work on the PS1 demake of Bloodborne, its not a surprise to see the quality continue in their next project. If you’re a fan of the classic RPG or kart racers, check out Nightmare Kart now and consider donating to its creator since, yet again, it’s completely free.
