Astro Bot is the Most Wishlisted Game from Summer Games Fest

Although many felt that the gaming showcases of 2024 lacked the impact they had in previous years (with many criticisms being pointed towards Geoff Keighley’s show in particular), there were still a good selection of announced games that players have to look forward to in 2024-2025. Thanks to data from IGN Playlist (which is a way for gamers to backlog games that they want to play), it turns out that the number one most wish listed game as of June 12th (after the majority of showcases) is Sony’s 3D platformer ‘Astro Bot’.

Although this may seem quite surprising considering that other games like Doom: The Dark Ages and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows made quite the mark in their announcements, if you’ve seen the trailer and/or played the free game that came with every PlayStation 5, ‘Astro’s Playroom’, you’d understand why people are so excited. The lovable robot ‘Astro’ has already become a mascot for the brand despite only being around for a VR and short tech demo style game.

Considering how great Astro’s Playroom was, however, a full fledged game from Team Asobi is a fantastic way to fill the gap between big Sony releases in an already dry year. With 3D platformers being the monopoly of Nintendo almost exclusively, seeing some creative competition in the form of Astro Bot is fantastic- especially since the first trailer showed so much character. There have been other attempts like Sackboy’s Big Adventure but Astro Boy looks like it could be on the same level as the Mario greats if Team Asobi manage to pull it off.

In terms of the other top ten most anticipated games according to the IGN wishlist, Doom: The Dark Ages, Perfect Dark and Gears of War: E-Day made their presence known. Considering that none of those will be releasing until 2025 at the earliest, however, it seems that 2024’s holiday season may just belong to Astro Bot. As long as it manages to capture the magic of Playroom alongside the integration of Dual Sense support in a similar way, this 3D platformer could be something very special.
