A Sequel to Steam World’s Best Game is Coming Next Month

The Steam World series is a frequent delight with its unique visuals, fun worldbuilding based on a world of robots and, of course, frequently changing genres with each game released. These range from metroidvania ‘Dig’, RPG ‘Quest’ and, most recently, citybuilder ‘Steam World: Build’. Out of all the games from this decade-old series, however, there is one that stands out as the best: Steam World Heist.

Steam World: Heist was a fantastic 2D tactical RPG in the same vein as XCOM with a twist: the ability to aim your own shots to ricochet and bounce around the level- hurting friend and foe alike. Top this off with a surprisingly diverse cast of characters to recruit and a phenomonal soundtrack from Steam Powered Giraffe and you have a fantastic little game that’s received praise from fans and critics alike. Thankfully, developers Thunderful clearly saw the potential of this concept and are releasing Steam World Heist 2 on August 8th.

The game is coming to all major consoles and, if it lives up to the first game, its sure to be a fantastic tactical RPG. Switching from a space faring adventure to one that takes place on the high seas, this release is a lot more vibrant and visually distinct from its predecessor. On top of this, new gameplay mechanics like being able to freely control your ship and greater customization of your party in a job-like system that will surely allow for more diverse builds depending on how you like to play.

Steam Powered Giraffe is also coming back to create some songs for this project too. With the game releasing in just over two weeks, there’s no better time to load up the first game to see what this indie gem is all about. As long as the quality bar for Thunderful’s Steam World series remains as high as its always been, we could see Steam World Heist 2 being the best release in the studio’s history.
